What are carpets made of?
Our carpets are made of three possible materials; Wool, Cotton (used for the warp), and silk. We ensure that all the materials used are top quality and we do not sell carpets made of synthetic materials such as acrylic or any sort of chemical composite materials.
Do you ship to my country?
We ship to most countries in Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. When you check out, you will provide us the shipment address. In case your country is not listed in our country list, please contact us to know if we ship to your country.
What styles of carpets do you have?
We carry many different styles of carpets to suit many different needs. This includes small area rugs that are suitable for smaller rooms, large area rugs that are suitable for large rooms and foyers, runner rugs for hallways, and prayer rugs. We also have kilims and other rugs that are suitable as throws for sofas and as wall rugs.
What defines quality and price of a carpet?
Quality in a carpet depends on multiple factors:
Material used: Natural materials are important. Our carpets are made only from natural wool, cotton, or silk. We do not have carpets with synthetic materials such as acrylic. We take great care to choose long lasting, soft carpets knotted with best quality materials.
Colour dyes: Dyes that are good quality will last forever (hundreds years, as seen in antique carpets) and will not mix when the carpet is washed. Another important factor in quality is whether the colours were prepared using natural/vegetable dyes or chemical dyes.
Workmanship: The number of knots per square cm (or square inch) is a very important factor when comparing carpets. Similar to the number of pixels on a screen or digital camera, the more knots there are per square cm (or inch) the finer the design will be and the more work it requires. Each carpet category has its own set of quality standards in terms of knots density. We always offer the highest density from each category.
Design, Symmetry, and Shape: The price of a carpet is also affected by design, symmetry, and shape criteria. It is important to have a handmade carpet that follows its category (origin) footprint in terms of design, symmetry, and with the least imperfections possible. The more "square" or "rectangle" the carpet is, the better.
The price of a carpet depends on the above quality factors as well as the origin, design, originality, and age of the carpet. In our semi-antique/antique section, we provide a unique selection of aged carpets. We see carpets as art, but also as an investment and we believe that investing in high quality pays off. In our buying and selection process, for each category or style, we only choose carpets that are top quality based on the above-mentioned criteria.
Do the colours and patterns in the carpets have any special meaning?
Yes, the colours and the patterns in the carpets are dependent on which region the carpet comes from. Each area of Turkey, each different group of people, and each different country has certain colours and designs that are unique to them. For instance, Turkoman or Afghan rugs have a distinctive redish-brown background and geometric symbols known as guls on them.
How do you find the carpets you have in your selection? Do you use a distributor?
No we do not use a distributor or any other type of middle man to source our carpets. We have spent nearly 40 years selling carpets and during that time we have become experts in spotting quality. We want to be sure of bringing the best to our customers and the only way to be sure is to find them ourselves.
Are Special Offers carpets lower quality?
No. From time to time we promote some of our carpets at a special price. The special offer carpets have the same high-quality standards as the other carpets we have in our catalog.
Do you guarantee the origin and quality of your carpets?
Yes. For each carpet that you buy from our store, we provide a certificate of authenticity and origin indicating all the characteristics of the carpet. You may use this certificate for your insurance and as a justification of your carpet value.
Do you have a store or exhibition that I could visit and view a carpet?
Yes we have. You may visit and view all of our online selection in our carpet store located in Cappadocia/Turkey. We would be happy to meet you and advise you on your visit to this wonderful region of Turkey. Our address is Le Bazaar d’Orient, Kayseri Cad. No 32, URGUP, Cappadocia, Turkey.
My carpet has different shades/nuances, is it normal?
In most cases, carpets have different shades and nuances. This is mostly due to the difference of the dye used in the yarn of the carpet. This common fact is known as Abrash. Abrash adds character to your carpet and is typical of handmade carpets.
Do the photos reflect the real colours of the carpet?
Yes. The photos of our carpets are taken outdoor (in the shadow) using professional photographers. We always verify the accuracy of our pictures and make sure that it reflects the true colours of the carpets. Some small variances may occur due to your screen settings (darker or lighter) but in most cases the colours are very accurate.
Do you have two exact samples of the same carpets?
No. All of our carpets are hand made. Hand-woven/knotted carpets are all unique pieces reflecting the unique work of the person who created the carpet. It is possible to find similar carpets from the same region of origin, similar in style and colour, but unlike machine manufactured carpets, two hand made carpets will never be exactly the same.
I am unsure of buying a carpet online. What if I don't like it once it arrives?
This is not a problem. CarpetView.com has a 30 day purchase on approval. This means that when you purchase a carpet from us, you will have 30 days after you purchase it to receive it and actually be able to see it and feel it and see how it looks in your home. If it isn't right, then you can send it back to us and choose another one. This takes all of the risk out of buying a carpet online. Please read our terms & conditions on how to return carpets.
